4x4: All You Should Know About Four-Wheel Drive 4WD
Four-wheel drive (4WD) is a drivetrain configuration that powers all four wheels of a vehicle simultaneously.
This setup increases traction and improves vehicle control on off-road terrains. The driver can switch between two-wheel drive mode (2WD) for highway driving and four-wheel drive mode (4WD) for off-road use.
4WD systems distribute the engine power equally to all four wheels, enabling the car to grip and travel over loose rock, mud, snow and sand.
However, it adds weight and additional mechanical complexity to the car, which negatively affects fuel economy and handling.
